The Center for Dewey Studies
www.siu.edu/~deweyctr
The Center for Dewey Studies at
Southern Illinois University at Carbondale was established in 1961 as
the "Dewey Project." In the course of collecting and editing
Dewey's works, the Center amassed a wealth of source materials for the
study of America's quintessential philosopher- educator, John Dewey. By
virtue of its publications and research, the Center has become the
international focal point for research on Dewey's life and work. Its
location at the University makes it possible for visitors to take
advantage of the resources and professional expertise of the faculty and
staff of the Department of Philosophy, the College of Education, Special
Collections in Morris Library, and the Southern Illinois University
Press.

Jean Piaget
Society
www.piaget.org
The
Jean Piaget Society, established in 1970, has an international, interdisciplinary
membership of scholars, teachers and researchers interested in exploring
the nature of the developmental construction of human knowledge. The
Society was named in honor of the Swiss developmentalist, Jean Piaget, who
made major theoretical and empirical contributions to our understanding of
the origins and evolution of knowledge. The Society's aim is to provide an
open forum, through symposia, books, and other publications, for the
presentation and discussion of scholarly work on issues related to human
knowledge and its development. The Society further encourages the
application of advances in the understanding of development to education
and other domains. The name of the Society was changed at the 1989
Annual Symposium to Jean Piaget Society: Society for the Study of
Knowledge and Development.

The Cognition and Aging Laboratory of
the University of Michigan. Dr. Denise C. Park's Cognition and Aging
research program focuses broadly on age-related decline in memory
function. Dr. Park and her colleagues investigate both neurological and
behavioral mechanisms underlying declines in cognitive processing. They
also investigate the meaning of these age-related declines in information
processing for medical treatment of elderly, and for functioning in social
situations. They also explore how age-related decline in cognitive
function might interact with diseases such as fibromyalgia, cancer, and
alcoholism. Finally, they are interested in assessing the nature of these
declines across cultures.
